On The Monday Lineup, BFF.fm DJ Erica (aka Baby Lindo) revealed what she's been up to this summer: learning how to DJ with Her DJ Club! Yesterday, Erica had Her DJ Club founder murcutian and fellow club members DJ Ash Marie, groovy d and RubiRoux stop by to talk about the club and their DJ journeys, play music, and promote their upcoming graduation showcase.

Celebrate seven of the Bay Area's newest female DJs at the Her DJ Club Graduation Showcase Kinfolx in Oakland on August 4 from 5:30-9pm. Vibes are gonna be HIGH!

"Come out and support women who have worked really hard on this craft," murcutian said on-air. The show is all-ages/family-friendly and free, but if you can, bring a donation to support the new DJs at their first paid gig!

Erica: Tell us about Her DJ Club and why you wanted to start it?

murcutian: I'll be real, it's been a little overwhelming how much attention it's gotten because I didn't expect it, but it turns out that a lot of women want to learn how to DJ! I've always been willing to share what I know. I'm not an expert, but I'm super willing to share the knowledge. But basically it started because a few women approached me at, like, live shows that I've done and have said, 'Hey, can you teach me?' It happened so often that I was like, okay, let me just start a class. So I started reaching out to community spaces in the Bay Area, specifically Oakland where I was living at the time. I found Firehouse Projects-- major shout out to Firehouse -- and they were super excited about my idea to start this cohort. I think that this particular community has a lot of really kick ass DJs, but it's pretty male dominated, and so I think my vision was to pretty much inject the game with a bunch of kick ass, fire ass women DJs.

What has been the most rewarding thing about starting Her DJ Club for you?

Honestly the most rewarding part is meeting all of you. You know, in this industry, it's a little bit tough to make genuine connections with people, not throwing any shade, it's just that sometimes it's hard to differentiate what is true friendship and what is transactional. With you guys, I've felt so appreciated and so loved, and it just feels like a real sisterhood and feels like real community.
